In the Doghouse Virtual Gala // K9s For Camo

Hi Friends,

Tank here. It seems like this year has been different for you all. You have been at home more often which is great, but it seems like things are a little stressful for you. I have heard you talk about something called COVID-19, and it seems like that is causing some trouble, stress, and heartache around the world which makes me sad.

My friends at K9s For Camo help save dogs like me, and then I get the honor of serving a veteran. How cool is that? I know there are other dogs like me in the shelter who would love to serve, but all of that takes resources. My friends at K9s do not charge the veteran for a dog, and help provide kennels, equipment, food, veterinary care, and more. I have recently learned that fundraising is down by 70% this year, and the waiting list for a veteran to be matched with a service dog like me is nine months. That is a really long time! One thing I have noticed is the amount of stress that this year has placed on many humans, and I am hopeful K9s For Camo can begin helping my veteran friends receive rescue dogs like me to serve them quickly.

You know, spending time at home is not so bad. In fact, I like it. This year, my friends at K9s For Camo are adapting to their changing reality by hosting a virtual gala. They want to do all they can to help keep their human friends safe and healthy. They’re calling this gala the “In The Doghouse Virtual Gala” – I think that’s supposed to be a funny way to play on all the time you humans have been spending at home, but I kind of like it. My doghouse is nice! Anyway, I think this will be a lot of fun. You can be a table host and have a small gathering of close friends and family over to your home for a dinner party. As a table host, you will purchase a table like you would for a regular in-person gala. The difference is you will just host in your own home! To support the community, the humans at K9s For Camo are partnering with some tasty local restaurants to help provide meals for your dinner. The hosts will be provided with media and a video to share during the dinner. Guests can ask questions about K9s for Camo and contribute if they would like to do so. This is a fun way to help introduce new people to the organization and help my human veteran friends at the same time. As a service dog, I love being able to help my veteran feel safe and confident, and with your help, we can make that happen for more veterans.

As I listen to the humans talk about the changes happening in the world, it is clear to me that times like this help us see how interconnected we are. It is the way we help take care of each other that really matters. I hope you know that everything you do makes a difference, and my friends at K9s For Camo could not do what they do without the time and financial support you provide.
